Using technology to translate ideas into products

Hey! My name is Yoav. As an antipreneur, I’ve used my web development and systems architecture skills to build solid and profitable small businesses. With over two decades of experience with technology, from MVC frameworks like Rails and Django, to Infrastructure Architecture, DevOps, payment integrations, A/B testing and Information Security.

I love getting my hands dirty. I’m inquisitive, pragmatic and get things done.

Things I can you help with

Fractional CTO or Co-founder

I can take your idea and turn it into a prototype or an MVP, or help you build or grow a small team. The aim is to get you off the ground and make myself redundant.

For businesses that I truly believe in, it might make sense to become a co-founder.

Consulting

I also offer consulting services in product development, A/B testing, privacy and information security, DevOps and backend development.

Consulting ranges from very short to long-term engagements

  • “I have this cool idea. Is it technically possible?”
  • “My site is down/under-attack/hacked, can you help?”
  • “It’s too slow, how do I make it faster?”
  • “My CI/CD pipeline is a mess, how can I improve it?”
  • “How do I help my developers write secure code? can you pentest my app?”
  • “How can I improve my code quality and development process?”
  • “Should I pick WordPress, Ruby on Rails or Elixir for my product?”
  • “I’d like to improve conversions, can you help me design and run effective A/B tests?”

Bootstrapping

If you’re writing a pitch-deck and are looking for VC money, then I’m not the right person. But if you’re bootstrapping a new small business, then I will likely save you a lot of time and agony. I will help you avoid some of the pitfalls and get you to focus on what’s important for your business.

I generally follow the 37signals principles, for both technical challenges and building ethical businesses. Things I have experience with:

  • Testing new ideas or features effectively with or without A/B testing
  • Common-sense marketing and SEO
  • Remote work, 4-day weeks, hiring
  • 6-week cycles (based on Shape Up), prioritizing, planning and why you should auto-expire items on your backlog
  • Why you and probably everyone on your team should be handling customer support

Testimonials

I worked with Yoav at a mutual client and for him and it has always been a pleasure. He’s sharp, just pleasant to work with and has the drive to really get to the bottom of things. He can draw from a broad set of knowledge around web development, dev-ops and all things Internet. While tech is his focus he also has the product in mind and how customers will be impacted by every decision. Oh and he introduced me to the world beyond regular hot coffee.

Yoav is an individual who naturally gains respect from everyone he works with – this not only down to his strong technical ability but also his warm manner and ability to make things happen.

Overall, I can see Yoav has very strong and broad technical skills, and great experience. Besides, he is a really pleasant and nice guy, with good sense of humour and easy to interact with.

Yoav is an amazingly talented systems architect and security expert and is probably the only guy I know who is extremely well organized on top of that. His solutions are well thought out and thoroughly documented and it’s been (and is) a great pleasure to work with him.

If you’d like to pair program or feel like you could use some mentoring, I’m happy to do it for free. I might not know the ins and outs of every problem, but I can certainly try my best. Some times just talking through a problem and explaining it to someone can help you discover a solution :)
